Aerospace

Anderson Materials Evaluation (AME) brings extensive expertise to the aerospace industry, focusing on critical projects that address a wide array of aerospace needs:

  • Adhesive Bonding Issues: Solving challenges related to adhesive bonding.
  • Thermal and Characterization Testing of Composites: Including thermal expansion, glass transition temperature, and composition analysis.
  • Polymer Degradation: Studying degradation processes in polymers.
  • Weld Cross Section Analysis: Analyzing welds to ensure structural integrity.
  • Aluminum Alloy Surface Treatments: Evaluating surface treatments for aluminum alloys.
  • Thermal Insulation Materials: Assessing materials used for thermal insulation.
  • Materials Characterization: Ensuring materials meet specifications from suppliers.
  • Avionics and Satellite Electronics: Supporting electronics and packaging needs.
  • Thermal Battery Materials: Analyzing materials for thermal energy storage.
  • High-Energy-Density Batteries: Studying silver-zinc and lithium-ion batteries.

Our aerospace clientele includes commercial and military aircraft manufacturers, maintenance organizations, parts and component makers, and various customers such as GE, Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, Raytheon, Cessna, United Technologies, The Gill Corporation – Maryland, MRA Systems, and Advanced Thermal Batteries.

Defense

Anderson Materials has deep roots in the defense industry, with founder Dr. Charles Anderson having spent 10 years at the White Oak Naval Surface Warfare Center and 6 years at Lockheed Martin Laboratories – Baltimore before founding AME. Dr. Lorrie Krebs, an Army Research Laboratory Fellow, contributes extensive defense industry experience.

In defense applications, we specialize in:

  • Weapons Systems Corrosion: Analyzing corrosion in defense systems.
  • High-Energy-Density Batteries: Evaluating batteries for defense applications.
  • Infrared Sensors: Assessing materials used in infrared sensing technologies.
  • Rocket Motors and Energetic Materials: Studying propulsion systems and energetic materials.
  • Avionics Electronics: Supporting electronic systems critical to defense operations.

Commonly analyzed materials include metal alloys, protective and optical coatings, heat-producing intermetallic materials, composites, semiconductors, optical glasses, and pyrotechnic materials. Our analyses encompass corrosion and degradation analysis, materials characterization, and failure analysis.

We have collaborated with Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, Aerojet, and various branches of the US military including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, among others. See more examples below.
