Professional Positions and Internships at AME

AME is not actively seeking to hire a professional scientist at this time! We have just filled the below position. Perhaps we will hire someone with similar abilities soon.

Position: Chemist/Materials Scientist

Background: Ph.D. in Chemistry/Materials Science and Engineering

Duties: Provide solutions to materials problems by identifying and measuring the materials properties responsible for application failures, manufacturing anomalies and other quality control issues, or needed by a material for a new application or use in a particular environment.  Assist customers in their research and development analytical needs.  Develop the analysis plan with customers to discover the critical properties and to measure those properties using the spectroscopy and microscopy tools of the Anderson Materials Evaluation (AME) laboratories.  Among the available analytical techniques are GC-MS, DSC, TGA, TMA, optical microscopy (3D Keyence digital microscopy, metallographic, and inspection), SEM/EDS, DC electrochemical polarization analyzer, mechanical testing, FTIR, UV-Vis absorption and reflectivity, wavelength-dispersive XRF, XRD, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), XPS surface analysis, contact angle measurements, and density/porosity measurements.  Report the results of your analyses to our customers so that they will understand how your analytical work will enable them to solve their problems and become more productive and profitable.  This needs to be accomplished in a timely way at reasonable cost to the customer.

Our work is challenging.  We solve materials problems relating to metals, semiconductors, polymers, inorganic and organic chemicals, glasses, ceramics, composite materials, and minerals.  Our customers are in many different industries, include patent and litigation issues, and some work for university researchers.  It takes a knowledgeable and conscientious professional scientist, with considerable self-confidence to undertake this challenging work.  AME offers a collegial environment, yet it demands merit.  The position requires constant learning and critical thinking skills.  This is why our staff of scientists all hold Ph.D. degrees.  AME is not a commodity analytical laboratory.  We do not do repetitive analysis of large numbers of samples.  We are a focused materials problem-solving laboratory.

If you are a Ph.D. scientist interested in this position, please contact Dr. Charles R. Anderson, Phone: 410-740-8562, Email: canderson@andersonmaterials.com   Please send a resume to him by email with a subject line saying “Careers at AME.”

Joining our Team as a Professional Scientist

AME is a small, independent materials analysis laboratory. At AME we are dedicated to building the best possible team of intelligent, rational, well-educated, and dedicated materials scientists. Our professional staff enjoys constant intellectual challenges in highly varied applied materials problem-solving projects. We serve a broad array of industries and solve problems for a large number of material types and applications; we are constantly growing our knowledge and learning.  We are materials detectives, whose attention to detail and ability to see “The Big Picture,” make us the scientific equivalent of Sherlock Holmes. Our work is fun!

We seek professional scientists/engineers with good problem-solving skills, strong self-initiative and self-management abilities, and good communication skills.  We welcome candidates who are able to bring in new clients by expanding our capabilities, doing business development, or through existing relationships.  We ask all team members to lead their own projects and work as entrepreneurs within the larger team.

Candidates should have an interest in the characterization of applied materials and have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant scientific field such as materials science and engineering, chemistry, physics, polymolecular science, chemical engineering, or electrical engineering. US Citizenship is preferred since it is a positive factor in keeping our client’s information proprietary and is often required on government or government contractor projects.

We offer flexible hours and a respectful, highly rational work atmosphere with constant intellectual challenges.

Please send resumes to Dr. Charles R. Anderson. Include “Careers at AME” in your subject line. Please note that our ability to hire new staff scientists is subject to the current state of the U.S. economy, which is highly dependent upon the fundamental individual right to pursue economic actions to earn a living.  This company’s owners do not give away jobs — they have to be earned.

Internships

We encourage college and local high school students interested in science and technology to contact us if they have an interest in working with us as a student intern. We invite prospective interns to visit our laboratory and to discuss their scientific and professional interests with us. We request that you make up a resume and send it to us prior to your visit. You may think of this as training on how to interview for a professional position in the future.
